I was finally able to talk my fiance into coming with me to an auction. I thought this was a great idea and was actually rather excited to let her share in the fun. Things did actually go rather well. So well in fact that I ended up spending more at this auction than ever before. She saw some guppies she wanted and proceeds to tell me, "I NEED THEM! Don't miss theme!". Several bags of fish later I had a very happy fiance. ;D

This morning I ended up building a new rack breeding guppies ::).....Oddly enough I said it in passing and she said that it was a great idea. Seriously? If I suggested a new rack for breeding anything....even guppies a week ago i would have gotten the stink eye. I guess I should just be happy right?  :P ??? Anyways ill have some new pics of my two tiered guppy breeding stand tomorrow.
Nothing but a few empty tanks.

Pretty soon you'll be building her a fish room.

I took my wife to an aution a number of years ago.  She had a good time meeting the MCA members and experiencing a new type of auction.  I set up a tank for her in the living room, and she's grown attached to her "kids".  She really likes when all the fish rush to to he top when she feeds them.  Some even swim through her fingers and allow her to pet them.

Since I typically don't raise fry, she suggested that I set up some raising tanks.  Michelle enjoys seeing the progression from eggs to fry to juvies to auction.  She also spends time with me observing the fish so she knows what's normal behavior.  If 'm travelling on business, and the fish act strange, she can recognize it and contact me for instructions.

In brief, if your G/F-Fiancee-Wife is presented with a no-pressure opportunity to learn about the hobby, at her own pace, you may be surprised at the outcome like nwr2339.

This is a good point.  As long as I don't sell off the pink convicts, african oddballs, or mess with the divided shrimp/dwarf frog/endler tank, (or set up more tanks in the half of the living room by the TV), my wife is pretty OK with what I do with the tanks in the laundry/'fish' room. :)

I hear you!  My wife came downstairs on evening and asked "Where are the spotty guys?" (Adult breeding pair of Jags)  I told her I sold them to make more room for the pike cichlid pair that was sharing the tank, and she said "I liked the spotty guys better.  The pikes are boring."  Go figure...that's why I got some Red Tiger motaguense, I suppose.  Remember men: A happy wife means a happy life.

My wife said the same to me after I sold some fish...fortunately to another hobbyist nearby who was willing to swap them back.

Let her tell you what she doesn't like then she will "Force" you to go to the auction and get a replacement, let her pick the new fish and at home she will start feeding them also...works wonders! Especially when your out of town... ;D

Shes doing about 50% of the feedings on the planted tank and will feed the others if I ask but for right now she really just likes watching.
