Great thread I have read through it all and contemplated this as well my next tank i will save some cash and just get some regular sand. I have no problem washing the sand (little at a time is key!). But, Great thread and cant wait to start up that tank soon enough.

Thanks!   In the end the decision was simple.  Also I read several people suggest using a pillow case to wash out the sand.  I knew that old Scooby Doo pillow case would come in handy some day.  Rooby Roo !

For what it is worth I would use pool filter sand, lot easier to work with than play sand.

Good idea.  Since I have a pool I know where to go to get the sand...

The reason I like play sand more than pool sand... its more natural looking.  Has a few different size "pebbles/sand" to it.  Pool sand is all the same.

Cant loose either way.

I still want to sent up a tank with the Black Diamond stuff.   Just dont know what to put in it yet.

So in the end and after multiple suggestions - I used Commercial Play Sand.  It was only $2.69 @ Home Depot.  I did not want to risk damaging the gills of any of the fish due to the sharp edges of the Black Diamond.

I do like the Commercial play sand better - lots of various sized granules and more natural look.

Pretty sure I am going to go with play sand in the new 150 myself.  Mainly because of price.

And because you can make sand castles with it for your fish?  ;)
