Deep Blue Aquariums?
« on: January 24, 2013, 09:56:11 PM »
Sooooo I am looking at buying an additional 75 gallon tank. I have found that I am too picky to buy used for the most part because of the scratches (okay, because I am OCD). Is "Deep Blue Aquarium" / "Deep Blue Professional" a good brand? It is available at Blue Fish Aquarium here in Grand Rapids. Is there another good brand that I could find locally around Grand Rapids or even as far as Lansing? I was not impressed with the look of Petsmart's 75 gallon and I don't need the light strip that is comes with.
75 Gallon Mbuna -8 Labidochromis chisumulae/Clown Labs, 4 Pseudotropheus sp. "Acei" (Msuli)/Yellow Tail Acei, 7 Pseudotropheus cyaneorhabdos/Maingano, 11 Pseudotropheus saulosi, 10 Synodontis petricola, 3 Ancistrus cirrhosus/Bristlenose Pleco

How much are you looking to spend on a new 75?

I bought a new Deep Blue 90-gallon last year.  I like the tank, mine was done with black silicone. I order glass tops from same manufacturer.  Very reasonable.
You can always order from http://www.greatlakesaquariums.com/default.aspx.  They are about a mile or two from auction site you attended last week.

Greatlakes Aquariums is a great place deal with.

I cant comment on Deep Blue, never had any experience.

You mention Lansing.... and you happen to say 75 gallon.... I over heard someone say that Preuss buys 75 gallon tanks by the truck load and sells them at a real good price.  Thats all I know about that though.

Drat, I wish I was closer to Great Lakes. I am limited to a 48" tank and really like the 18x18 65 gallon they have. The 5 hours driving time would probably be a bit much.

Are the Great Lakes Aquarium stands nice? Trying to pick a used one up today that looks like it is probably from them, nice dark oak that matches our hardwood floors. Okay, nevermind I guess I need to take the time to fully read responses.  :P Too busy trying to get my kids to eat so we aren't late for school.

Order the tank now, pickup the tank when you come to Motor City Auction in February.  Run an extra filter on you existing tank (or use your free sample of StartSmart Complete) and you can set-up tank when you get come from auction and fill with new purchases.

I probably won't be coming out for that auction.  I think we will actually try to sell the 65 bowfront and get a 75 gallon with a little more floor space to switch all our current fish into. We got this 65 tank in a bit of a rush since we had bags of fish waiting at home and a flat tire we had to stop and pump up every once in a while. Bit of a crazy day... Great looking tank, but I want to run the FX5 filter, and this tank is not made for it and I don't want to hack up the other hoses to make things work, and the top is too wide to put things over the back.

I picked up a Marineland 75g with black silicone around Christmas time from Pruess for $100.

I have seen the same tank in GR, but not as cheap.

Yeah, a LFS was selling the Marineland here for $180. For that price, I was not very impressed in the quality. For $100 it would be a good deal. Going to hold out until tomorrow morning and see if they got in the Deep Blue one for $140 at the other store since their tank shipment was coming in today. Two people wanting to come look at the tank I am selling so eager to get my fishies transferred!
