Lethrinops Albus (video 4-23-13)
« on: January 24, 2013, 07:32:51 AM »
So... my wife wants to try breeding these fish.  Not necessarily to sell, but just to do it.

We got 8 of them.  2 Males.  1 we are not sure about.  5 females.

Right now they are set up in a 20 gallon tank and doing very well.  The idea was to move them to another tank mid to late summer or so.  But they are growing so fast, I dont think I have that much time.  The dominate male is already showing color on his face and fins.  I am very surprised/happy that this is happening so fast.  It looked like a gold fish tank when we first got them.

I think I would like to move our 85 gallon Peacock tank and use it for the Albus.  Which also opens the door to get a bigger peacock tank. 8)

But, we will see what happens.

Been meaning to take pictures with the good camera of all our fish... but just havent done it.

I cant get a good picture for shit with my cell phone.

These are not our fish, but this is what the adults should look like.  And what our dominate juvenile male currently looks like.

Ours are the Kande Island ones.... there are a few out there and they can look quite different.

The tails should be a red/pink mixed with blue.  The face should be a real light metallic like blue.  The body will be a silver to gold like color.

I hope.

Those look nice.  I had some Red Caps,  that I bought from Ron, a couple years ago. I used to like it when the sun beemed in the windows & would hit the male.

IMO the Lethrinops are an under appreciated genus.

We like them.  They are different.  Kind of a strange shape face.  Swimming around gulping and spitting sand all over the place.  Pretty peaceful.  Lots of color (I hope).  And the color is a little different shade than a lot of peacocks.

Will be  a nice looking group.  I agree with Blair, they are under appreciated.  I have a group of nine Lethrinops "Red Cap" in a 40 breeder I am going up.  Already starting to see the dominant male take his role.  They are about 2.5" right now.

We have a trio of Ruby Peacocks in with them.  Going to move them into their own tank so the Albus can have the tank to themselves.

We took the Ruby Peacocks out and also the one Albus that had a black tail.  We didnt want that kind, so into the other tank she goes.

This is the fry condo that we are using.  They are covered up with slate and we'll see if it works to keep the fry safe.
