I figured that was going to be the answer.  I am thinking as a replacement for the Peacock tank.

Thinking about moving the 85 (48x18x22?) to the kitchen for my wife's breeder tank.  Then replacing it with a 48x24x??

Ya, thats why I am thinking about going to 24 deep.  I wanted 5' long... but it wont fit.  So, the only way to get more footprint is to goto a 24 tank.  then the question comes... how tall do I take it?

Are you doing a custom tank?  Otherwise, the most typical size available is going to be a 120 (48x24x24), IIRC.

12" is too short for most IMO.

Going higher than 22" is completely unnecessary for most IMO.

I really like the 16" height of my 40 gallon long (48x13x16), but just wish it had more depth than 13". That isn't much room to work with, and so it is sitting empty in my basement at the moment.

With tall tanks you have to make tall rock structures & that leads to the chance of them falling down & busting the tank.
