With a fishroom that nice you are really going to have to have it nicely stocked. So a few more dollars there. How about a nice pair of Blue eyed plecos for that 500 gallon.

Concerning venting the air exchanger. If your basement has glass block windows, and there is one in the fishroom just remove two of the blocks and replace with dryer vents.
