Chiller on a MARS system?
« on: December 12, 2012, 12:25:35 PM »
So I was into our new pet store again today, still no fish tanks going :( And the lady asked me if I knew of certain species of fish in which a chiller would be used on a system of about 12-15 tanks or so. Not exact on quantity. Any info might be hepful. Thanks in advance.
No longer fishroom, I have a FISH BASEMENT!!!

Any species that needs a lower water temperature than the ambient temperature.  :P

First thought - native species

Next thought - reef species requiring MH lighting (that kind of lighting gives off lots of heat)

Third thought - salmon  :P

Mainly chillers are used on salt water tanks in the summer months. There is a good handful of cold water and sub tropic fish out there like some barbs, weather loaches, black sharks, hi fin banded sharks, lepeord dainos, gold fish, koi, long nose gar, spotted gar, Texas cichlids, cloud minnows, desert goby and platys.

There is more but I keep drawing blanks

These folks that are opening the store, purchased this system, and another one probly 100plus tanks from a Petsmart in Ohio that was moving. Im wondering if they had the chiller because of all the heat generated in certain area wherever it was located. Either way thanks for the info, I am really looking forward to helping this store out with the fish side of things in the future.  ;D

Give them a heads up on making life easier if they didn't do it already some how plumb the system so they can do automatic water changes so its a lot less of a hassle we have it here at the store and it makes changing water a lot easier we do like 1200 gallons at a time though.

MARS systems have a chiller in the unit normally dedicated to goldfish.
