i know ohio has a one buck a year rule  would you support something like that in michigan?
I would love to see something like that come back again. I think it strikes a nice balance between people who want to shoot anything and people who want to see bigger deer. If anyone's worried about seeing their season end early, then they should make sure they are a little more picky, to shoot something they are pleased with. Once you're done it leaves more opportunity for everyone else who is still hunting.

i also think it will help michigan achieve a better buck to doe ratio after people get there buck there still going to want to hunt so they will shoot does.  also i think we would see more 2 1/2 and 3 1/2 year old bucks out in the woods

does are what helps me pass abuck, when ever I get the urge I kill a doe.  My boy thinks they taste better anyway, but he think tenderloins come from does and the rest is buck.  Truthfully and despite what I hear all the time,  I can't tell the difference.  Even and old buck taste great. Not that I get to eat them often.

By the way,  Ohio was great but hunting wasn't had a good time but I was cursed this year.  I'll get revenge during their shotgun season....... I hope!!

Good to see some updates!

I haven't been out in a while - was working quite a bit and then took some time off to head to North Dakota...

I went with my Dad. It's the second time we've been - last time was in 2007.

The first few days it was hard to find birds, but we gradually did better and better. One day we even both got our daily limits:

I also saw a nice 8 point whitetail from about 50 yards, a few small muley bucks, and a beast of a whitetail buck from about 400+ yards (easily a 20"+spread, 8"-9" tines, and at least a mainframe 10 - and I'm being conservative!).

I'm trying to build up the motivation to bow hunt tomorrow, but gun season is so close I'm tempted to work on other projects and just wait.  :-\

The rut seemed to come and go where I was at Warren.  Actually it doesn't go it just moves to nightime as it got hot where I was at for a while and sightings went to zero for multiple day.  We actually saw does get bred a couple of times.  Once by a spike and once buy a 4 point.  A guy I was hunting with killed a 10pt the day after I left.

Ron looks like fun in the Dakotas.  I have not shot a pheasant in years as the numbers are way down and I kinda packed it in.  A couple guys I work with were in Nebraska last week for birds but haven't got a report from them yet.  South Dakota is a sleeper for big deer as you obviously can relate with your sightings.

I got back late Fri. night early Sat. morning and haven't been in the woods since.  Kinda want to keep it quite until the sl;ugs start flying.  I took my shotgun to Ohio to shoot it as I wasn't going to be home until today originally.  My scope took a crap and I went to the shop to replace it and came home with a scope and a new gun to mount it on.........  I really have to learn to quit listening to the voices..... or at least learn to listen to the other ones.  Anyway,  I bought a Savage bolt action 20g.  It is a tack driver with 1.5" groups at a hundred yards.  Can't wait to get some revenge with it.  Not a Savage fan in the past but their reputation is really improving.

Good luck tomorrow guys!

Heard 60+ instances of shooting this morning - didn't bother counting tonight and though there weren't as many, there was a lot again.

... And saw a big goose egg - 0 deer.

Wish it was still bow season when I saw deer during every sit and the hunter density was less than 1 hunter per 5 acres. Being surrounded by so many with a "brown-its-down" mentality isn't helping either.  :(

On a positive note I only saw slight trespass issues today. Neighbors decided it was easier to walk just over the line on my mowed paths than through their field. Decided to just let it go for the time being. Hopefully sightings go up as the week wears on.

I hear ya we were literally surrounded, one guy walked arouynd most the day and set his stand up 40 yards behind my gun blind.  Although I didn't like it he was on his side and we on ours so not much we could do or say.  On the other side a guy set up a ladderstand 10yards from the property line and shot a buck after I shot him...... ugh!  Oh well what can you do.  I think that he must of shot 4 or 5 deer today.  Friggin jerk!  I don't think anyone has permission to hunt there yet they have for years and shoot anything with 4 legs.  I think its time I attempt to locate the owner in the city and talk with him and maybe we can work something out.

Brother shot a 5pt(his second deer) and dad's buddy shot a 3pt(one sided) he gets hungry and is happy with it so why not.   Her of a few shot but not a lot among any of my friends.

Things are still going slowly ... seeing a couple does every 3-4 days and that's about it. The shooting sure dropped way off though and I'm looking forward to the darkening moon.

Doing something different on Monday. Have to take a boat to hunt! Going over to Stag Island with my brother in the boat. Hunting is supposed to be awsome due to lack of hunters that have boat's. will be quite interesting to bring back a deer in the boat. Wish me luck!

Good luck!

I was thinking about doing something similar, but instead looking for ducks rather than deer.

Anyone? Anything?

Saturday I took my dog out to run for the non-existant pheasants behind my house now that the snow flattened all the grass. We had fun just being out and heard a close shot, but I couldn't tell from where. Shortly afterwards I found a blood trail through my backyard and apparently missed a trespasser by minutes. Left me a little annoyed.

Got the smoke pole out Sunday to make sure it's sighted in still since the freezer is still empty. Went out last night and actually had a couple come in just as I was getting up to leave. I sat for another hour waiting for them to leave before very, very slowing slipping out of there without spooking them. Hopefully in the next week or so I can get it done.

I took a monster 8 point last week.  He has a 20" inside spread and very long brows.  I'll work on getting a pic loaded later.  I got him in Ohio during the shotgun season.  Haven't hunting lately but plan on getting a friend out this weekend.
