Ilangi fry
« on: September 05, 2012, 11:12:29 PM »
It has been quite a a while since the last time I posted anything. Feels like the first time again. Anyways... I finally have some fry out of my illangi colony. I was trying to let them spit in the tank but they never seemed be successful. I would like bet I had 6 spawns over the summer and all but 2 where still holding through day 21 but never got any fry. So... Needless to say I got sick of letting nature take its course and decided to strip. I was too busy to over the weekend and up till now didn't have time so the one stripped actually held for 23 days. I did get 5 very lively developed fry though. I also noticed another holding and got 2 with sacks still attached (which are in a tumbler). Hopefully this is a sign of things to come. I if they keep up the pace they have been spawning at, I should be able to average 30 to 40 every 3 moths or so.
I do need to work on my stripping though. Had a bitch of a time getting the two with the sacks still attached. I couldn't seem to get anymore out of her.
Nothing but a few empty tanks.

Sometimes it's just best to get what you can get while keeping the stress level of the mother reasonably low and then put her back.  :)

That's what I figured. She's still holding the rest as of now too. Did lose 2 of the fry overnight though. Still 5 left though.
