switching tanks
« on: September 01, 2012, 12:54:42 PM »
Ok so I plan on moving my fish from my 90 to 180 I have filters and bio balls from the wet dry from work and my 2 400s on my 90. Can I just take the media from those and put in the wet  dry would that be enough seeded bio plus my sand, rocks, driftwood, and.spongfilters to get the tank going without worrying too much.

I would think so... But, keep an eye on parameters to be sure.

You should be fine as long as you don't go hog wild and add more fish than what was being supported previously.
You'll undoubtedly lose some bacteria in the process so you want to give it time to build back up.

Only adding some fry to the tank prly will not make it too long in there. I will watch them for sure though. Really only wanna add maybe a fusco and a pheno.

If you can take water from the 90 as well, that would probably help.

There is usually bacteria in the water, so if you're just shutting down your 90, take it all.  If you're keeping the 90 running, I wouldn't take more than half.

I wouldn't worry too much about taking the water as I would be about keeping all the filter media, substrate&  decor wet/Submerged in tank water .  So, any BB present will live.

It is highly recommended to keep all media submerged just as Blair mentioned.

Your dealing with a 25 year old here... I we all were my age one time why make more trips when you can kill youreself with the first one. Well so far no leaks last time it was due to bad bulkheads this time I've been running strong for 30 min and will check again after I shower.
