What new fish have you acquired in 2020?
« on: April 06, 2020, 10:17:26 PM »
Just curious what new fish everyone is working with this year? In January I purchased some caudopunctatus and albino trewavasae (to expand my currently group). More recently purchased some yellow and black lithobates from a German lineage (buddy was getting out of the hobby and sold me his quad).  Post your new fish or even new fry you have welcomed to world. Stay safe everyone and tank on!

We had stopped breeding yellow labs a while ago, but in February we bought a few bags of them. Then unexpectedly our 55g up here opened up, so we decided to fill it with more rock and put all the yellow labs in there. They will grow, breed, tumble, and survive.
It will be a pain in the butt when we decide that we want to net some at a later date, but eh, we will deal with that when it gets here  ;D

So far just one that I have been wanting for a very long time, a Malawi gar I picked up from Josh a couple months ago. Then in a day or two I'm getting a nice male eye biter from someone here. That's pretty much what I am down to doing these days is just getting the last few "must have" species I have been wanting for the big show tank now.

An amazing blood red beta named "Esham".
He now rules top half of my planted tank.
Not a cichlid but......tank runs itself.
No chores on this tank!
One tank remains.
MTS is in fact a disease.
Most are just feeders these days!

I brought in a group of 12 Ramphochromis Esox. They have doubled in size and are now about 4 inches.  Looking forward to breeding them.

I've gotten into angelfish a little bit. Used to breed them a hundred years ago and might again. I bought 8 wild peruvian angels and just bought 6 really nice colored koi angels off aquabid.

They're stunning Brian. Nice crisp lines, and beautiful long trailers already. Very nice mate! Did you get them locally or shipped?

Nice mate. It's tuff to vent cypho's at that size, but usually batches of fry are pretty close to 50/50 M/F, so your results are pretty close to reflecting that. Hopefully the 3 unknowns are all female as well!!

I'm working on three groups of tanganyikans.

Neolamprologus buecheri kechese
Neolamprologus specious
Xenotilapia ochagengy Mzuri

I have had a few spawns with the buecheri. Cool fish and very good parents, too bad the spawns are so small.

Good morning, I hope everyone is well. Personally, I am making the most of the additional time in my fish-room due to the quarantine. I have made modifications to my lighting system; now using blue filter (only allows blue light through) for daily lighting and have added task lighting for maintenance and display. Filtration system modifications now include manual/direct water change refill; tapped into system after filter, sending fresh water directly to aquariums, additional water creates overflow in reservoir to drain. I do this daily while I am feeding (10-15 minutes), this represents approximately 10% of the system capacity/day.

Recent fish additions include;
T. Nkonde Yellow, T. Purple Lufubu, N. Falcicula Cygnus, N. Nigriventris

Recent spawns include;
T. Duboisi Maswa, T. Orange Bemba, T. Brichardi Ulwile, T. Brichardi Bulombora, T. Golden Kiriza, T. Red Moliro
J. Regani Kipili, J. Affinnis Black
N. Helianthus, Sunflower, N. Brichardi Daffodil, N. Buscheri Zaire Gold, N. Savoryi
Paracyprochromis Nigripinnis

I wish everyone to stay safe and well.
George
