Tanks & Fish For Sale
« on: February 15, 2020, 09:54:21 PM »
I am selling my tank system - getting rid of everything as I want to go a different direction.
The 3 plywood tanks are all part of one system for a total of 800 gallons. The tanks were built by me and are in a wooden rack I built and stacked above one another and plumbed together and run off a single pump. The bottom and largest tank is 8 ft long x 4 ft wide x 22 inches deep and is about 400 gallons in volume. This bottom tank also acts as a sump. The middle tank is 8 ft long x 3 ft wide x 18 inches deep and is about 240 gallons in volume. The top tank is 8 ft long x 2 ft wide x 18 inches deep and is about 160 gallons in volume. The there are 2 heavy duty storage bins with media used as filters. This system has many fish in it today. The most recent project was breeding tilapia as feeding for predators but they bred and grew faster than the predators could eat them. I have 4 types of tilapia - blue, orange mossambicus, hybrid red Nile, and a few female tanganicae. Also some other cichlids - 2 nice large parrots, a male gold and female standard Jack Dempsey. For predators there are 3 peacock bass (temensis), an albino red Oscar, South American arowana, & gold giant gourami.

I am not looking to give things away but also am a realist on the likely value. If any of this is of interest shoot me a PM. I am in Midland, MI.

Gold JD male – bought as a juvenile blue gene gold from guy in California.  Have had it for many years and have not bred with it.
JD female – was given to me by a friend.  Have not seen it breed and it is not paired with the male.  $20 for both

Male & Female parrots – bought at PetSmart – hand picked as they had better body shape and have had them for years.  The male is much bigger than the female.  Was thinking about trying to breed them at one point but learned the males are all sterile.  These two may be paired and lay eggs but they will not produce off-spring.  They look like what is sold as a King Kong Parrot as they don’t have the notch in their nose.  Very nice fish - $100 for the 2 of them.  Would throw in the JD’s if you bought the parrots.

Peacock Bass – 3 of them – all temensis – bought at 2-3” from a shop in TX.  They are now 5” to 6” and eating pellets.  I paid $40 each and will sell them for $150 for all 3.

Silver Arowana - paid $30 at 4” and it is now ~16” long.  Eating pellets.  Selling for $50.

Gold Giant Gourami - paid $30 at 3" and is now at least 8".  Aggressive but getting along with other fish.  Not albino as it has dark eyes. Selling for $50

Albino Red Oscar - bought at $15@ 3".  Now 8"+ and asking $25.

The tilapia can be very pretty fish and great for breeding feeders.  My favorites are the gold mossambicus and red nile hybrids as they are more colorful.  The gold mossambicus are a pure bred leucistic version of the species.  The red nile hybrids are line bred hybrids between the gold mossambicus and the nile tilapia - these are generally farmed as food fish but make an interesting aquarium specimen.  I have one male over 12" long.  They are all mouth brooders and breed as a harem (1 male & 4 to 6 females) and the fry grow really fast - easily fed with algae wafers as a first diet.
