Phenochilus Gissel
« on: October 15, 2019, 08:04:09 AM »
I have kept pheno Tanzania and Mdoka but always wanted a group of Gissel because there is actually very few true green cichlids out there, and I love the behavior of Pheno's. I picked up a very well priced group of 13 juvies a coupla months back and they're starting to look very nice. Not quite green yet but getting there :)
Here's a few pics and a short vid of the group. The tank belongs to my boys hence the pirate and lairy plants theme lol

Yea at this size they do but as they mature they develop a deep jade green around the head. This pic is off the web

Had my 1st spawn recently. I let the female hold and after about 10 days she wasn't holding anymore. They're very young yet but the 2 dominant males are starting to color nicely.

Thanks Brian! I had another spawn today so we'll see if this female goes the distance. I'm not really set up for growing out fry, nor do I really know of any demand for this species of pheno, but I may find someone on the GCAS site who wants to raise the fry. If not they can be live food for the CA tank.
They're actually pretty nice looking for a female malawi...
