Title: Something from established tank
Post by: xzackly999 on December 11, 2014, 09:43:28 AM
Hey everyone. I've just got my 60 gallon set up and filled with water. Does anyone in the Farmington /Livonia area have something i can borrow from an established tank to throw in my filter to speed up my cycle?

Thanks,
Zack

I am happy to oblige but I live in White Lake.  I do work in Pontiac though. Just in case you can't find someone more local.

Go buy some biozyme &/or ask the guys at Pet Connection to give you a dirty bomb.

Thank you for the offers everyone:
@jcunningham0295 -  I won't be able to make the MCA xmas party tomorrow, I'll be working pretty late.
@cranialdisturbance - I may contact you if I can't find anything else soon.
@Regalblue - I tried calling Pet Connection, they are on my way home from work sort of.  But, the person I spoke to said he wasn't familiar with the term "dirty bomb" and also did not offer me anything when I explained what I was doing. He proceeded to tell me I can stock it right away, just don't overfeed.  I didn't really feel like continuing the conversation after that, as I've already got my tank dosed to 4ppm ammonia.

I have some SeaChem Stability. Does anyone have any experience with that product? Supposedly it contains beneficial bacteria.

Are you ever by south Westland?   I can hook you up.

Go pickup some smartstart complete and add that to the tank and add fish.  Royal Oak Tropical Fish sells it.  I use it all time and never lost any fish.

If you do come to Royal Oak to get some Startsmart at Royal Tropical then let me know. I live in RO and I have to change the floss and filter pads in one of my XP4's either Friday/Saturday so I could give you a large amount of well established media that would get you cycled quickly.

Same here except I live in Highland.  I have 3 nylons filled with my old gravel that I am taking out of my tank as I did a complete substrate change and used them to help cycle the tank with my fish still in the tank. I am taking them out this weekend if you want them. I put one nylon in my FX6 so its good and nasty  :D.

Thanks everyone, I really appreciate all the responses and offers.
I will definitely figure out what to do in the next day or two.

I've been adding the Seachem Stability the last two days, so I'll check my water tomorrow and see if there is any progress.

Once again, thank you everyone for offering me so much help on this topic.

I received some media from Tony today as he happened to be traveling near me.  I wanted to give a shout-out to him for being so nice and more-or-less delivering it to me without asking for anything in return.

I will post some pictures of my tank once I get everything stable and some stock added.

Glad to help you out Zack. It was also nice of you to offer me something in return, but not necessary. I'd rather you put the item to use instead. Looking forward to seeing pics.
