I'm still basically homeless. I have absolutely no place to put a huge tank. Yet I'm strongly considering blowing some cash on this:

8' x 4' x 16" - You can't get a much better size tank for rays.
-
just think of the shellie tank you can make
Freight would be how much?
-
Suddenly I find myself imagining how I could rearrange the living room... :P
-
Leo - I guesstimate freight would be $600 give or take a $200. If that tank was with 300 miles of here I would already have 1... possibly 2.
Griz - That dining room table takes up way too much space... Perfect location for this tank.

LOL. Your like a alcoholic who works in a bar.

Hell I would help you move the thing into your house, just to see it. But...... since you don't have one guess my offer is moot. Would be an amazing tank for rays thou.
-
That be badass for just about anything.
I myself would have a Dovii pair in it.

If I got one I would fill it with Tutti-Fruiti tetras :D :D :D
Actually, I would be doing some serious rays again with a Tigrinis cat to boot.

I'll still watch you guys move it ::)

It's acrylic. Not a huge deal even at that size.

There is a guy that built his house around having a room for his tank. The nickname of this gentleman is Villadsen, from Europe. I am linking you to forum where he is posting his build process, first thread is preparing for the tank, the last is his decorations. Monster Tank / Room (http://www.wildcichlids.com/Forum/english.aspx?g=topics&f=76) please take a look.
Now Jeff, this just shows what you could do with one of these monsters, all you need is the house.

Hey Jeff, I think everyone might be talking you into a road trip. If you go will you be taking orders..LOL.

Lol, Jeff you should've seen my daughters face when she saw Tony's table.
Luckily I caught her while reaching for it.

I always thought you where a little partial to the Tutti-Fruiti. LOL.

On MittenState a year or two ago there was discussion on how I could accommodate a River Dolphin. I was thinking of a moot around the entire house and replace the concrete basement walls with acrylic glass.

No road trip for me. It would cost more in gas to drive one way then it would to have an LTL carrier deliver it. Now we could do a 'group' order which would lower the freight costs.

Lol, I remember the dolphin discussion

if it was that close, I would have one too

So Jeff, how many Tutti-Fruiti Dolphins will fit in your acrylic river basement?

OMFG. I just spent like 20 minutes typing out length and elaborate smart ass response. One inadvertent click made it all disappear before it was posted. UGHHH!

Well… Since you asked here was my plan.
This plan wouldn’t have worked at my Howell house since I had a walk out basement but would work on a house with a full basement.
Okay here was the design. Dig a moat 10’ wide and 12’ deep around the perimeter of the house. The exterior wall and floor of the moat will be poured concrete treated to be water proof. The interior wall will be formed by placing concrete columns every 20’ around the perimeter of the basement wall with a steel beam spanning the opening to support the house and be its new foundation. Each 20’ opening in the foundation of the basement will be filled in with an acrylic panel 10’ high with the remainder of the overall height taken up by a concrete sill and header. The moat will then be topped off with a retractable arched roof made of acrylic panels – this will allow light to come in without having to subject the dolphins to Michigan weather. Unless of course it is a nice summer day in which you retract the roof and allow them access to open weather.
Obviously the overall size of the moat will depend on the size of the house, but a guesstimate would be around 180,000 gallons. Given this size how many dolphins could be accommodated??? It might not be big enough for one. But you could try like 2 and see how it works out.
If I’m still bored and still avoiding doing actual work I may do some drawings detailing the design. If I do, I’ll post them.

Jeff,
If it is any help I'll come and watch you dig :)

Always willing to help. That's why I like you. :P

And you think water changes are tedious now?
Just wait :P

One word - automated!

I've bookmarked the seller for future consideration. 8)

You would have been better off with the walk out basement. You'd just have to replace the walk-out wall with a concrete and treated steel framework with 2" thick x 4' x the height of your basement wall. The thick acrylic wouldn't allow for too much heat loss during winter months, and your dolphins would be entertained by people, animals, birds etc. through the viewing panes. You could have a swim platform on the stairs leading down into your basement where you could swim with your dolphins. Of course, you'd have to spray your subfloor and floor joists with epoxy to waterproof them.
