So I flushed a fish that was apparently too large to be flushed. :o
What does everyone do with their large dead fish?
-
Fertilize the garden.
-
Burying dead fish, especially large specimens, either for fertilizing outdoor plants or to just recycle the nutrients naturally, isn't a bad idea but it's obviously tougher to do when they die in the middle of winter. I have buried dead fish in the Springtime around rose bushes. They take time to break down so the effect is not immediate but they do seem to help. Just one word of caution from experience... bury 'em deep enough the neighbors' dogs don't try to dig 'em up! :P
This time of year it's probably easier to wrap the dead fish in old newspaper and put it in the trash.
-
put them in a ziploc or fish bag (tied shut) and freeze them. Put them out with the trash on garbage day.
-
Ziploc and garbage when it's frozen out---plant food in the warmer months.
-
Neighbors mail box...
-
Seriously? Turkey food!

In the winter I do this minus the freezer part, in the summer I will put them in a bag and in the garbage can and set it next to the fence of the neighbor that drives me nuts in the summer, and since the winds come from the west= Perfection LOL

LOL. That was my first thought!
If it's not frozen, into the compost pile. If it's winter, I freeze them in a plastic bag and hopefully remember to include them for the next trash day. I'll admit, a couple times I've found a strange bag while cleaning the chest freezer out and it's got a frozen fish in it. :o

LMAO! I have a female Herichthys Cazones in my freezer. It's been dead for about a year.
But, here's the kicker.... it died while I was living at my old place. Yes, her frozen corpse made the move with me.
Ask Linux what I do with my dead. He's seen it firsthand. ;)

I wrap the expired fish and discard in the trash outside....if the fireplace is going....well.... ::)
-
I hope the garbageman never looks in our garbage. Depending on the time of the year they'll find deceased squirrels, chickens, or deer parts. :P Only one small fish casualty so far.
-
Doesn't matter the time of year to me. I throw it out the basement window and assume the raccoons or possums eat them. (I live in a tri-level slightly in the country. )

Here is a funny story! While living with my cousin some time back, I had all my tanks going, 2- 55's and 29. Well I ended up losing a very large pleco. he must have been 6 - 8 " long and at least 3 - 4' wide. We lived in Garden City at the time. I didn't want to just throw this thing out the window because I was affraid of the potential smell hazzard. So I dropped it down the toilet. BIG MISTAKE ! It got jammed in the neck of the toilet and caused a MAJOR flood in the house. Needless to say after many hours of disassembly they found the culprit. Boy was I embarrased. My Uncle and Cousin gave me the dirtiest look that day. Needless to say, I have not dumped any large fish down the toilet since. I bet to this day they get together and that story still comes up ! Good thing he lives in Howell, I don't make it out that way much anymore. ! :o :o :o

Try the garbage disposal or bet yet Aco has plungers on sale lol.

Has anybody thought of eating their big dead fish? Come on, we know you have...cichlids taste like Bluegills!

I did the same thing with a large pleco. I had to have a plummer come out. After snaking and pulling the toilet out it was still clogged. Turnes out he had to snake from the soil stack on the roof somehow it got lodged in there. Needless to say it was like a 400 dollar plumming bill for flushing a dead fish. The wife was not too happy. :-\
