Jeff Cardwell - Guest speaker for MCA June 1st meeting
« on: May 24, 2012, 11:17:19 PM »
Jeff Cardwell is our guest speaker for the Michigan Cichlid Association Friday June 1st meeting.

Jeff will be giving a talk on his most recent collecting trip to Peru.

Jeff is well known in the tropical fish/cichlid community as an avid collector, and I'll be posting his bio within the next day or so.  To give you a brief overview of his experience, Cichlid Room Companion lists these countries that he's collected from:   El Salvador, Brazil, Mexico, Peru, Boliva, Suriname, the Bahamas, and the U.S. Virgin Islands.

As always, our meeting starts at 7:30pm and is being held at Trinity Lutheran Church at 45160 Van Dyke Utica, Mi 48317

We are also looking to have a get together after the meeting at Champp's Restaurant in Utica so if anyone wants to pick Jeff's brain, this would be an excellent opportunity to do so.

Sounds like a good talk.  Hope everyone enjoys it.

Who has a graduation party on a Friday night?  I say you leave early ;D

Here is Jeff Cardwell's bio:

Jeff Cardwell has been active in the aquarium hobby for 40 years. He maintains over 70 aquaria and his interests and expertise extend to catfish, killies, rainbowfishes and cichlids. Jeff has traveled extensively to collect aquarium fishes in Brazil, Peru, Bolivia, Surinam, Uruguay, Mexico, the Bahamas and the U.S. Virgin Islands. An enthusiastic keeper of North America's native fishes, his collecting trips have also taken him to many parts of the United States. Both as a speaker and a judge, Jeff has been a familiar figure at shows throughout the Midwest for more than thirty years. He is an active member of the American Cichlid Association, the American Killifish Association, the American Livebearer Association, and the Circle City Aquarium Society.

Party doesn't start until 7pm in West Bloomfield or I would leave early.

Very interesting!  I enjoyed the talk and the opportunity to pick Jeff's brain about collecting trips afterward as well.

Collecting trips to South America are not as expenive as expected.  Reasonable, actually.  Might go again next year, look for new pikes.
