Got a little time to get back to some work on this in wall Discus tank build tonight. Those that remember my rock wall 265g build will recognize where I am going with the foam board wall (it will look like a jungle rock wall). Since this tank will have a 3D background and be built into the wall that can make doing tank maintenance a bit of a headache because you cant view through the front or back glass while doing vacuuming and such.

So thinking a bit ahead with an eye towards tank maintenance I am making the center panel of the wall hinged so that I will be able to raise and latch it up out of the way to give me full tank access for in tank cleaning/work.

Wall is built and foam wall front is all attached so tank is now fully in the wall. Time to start carving and make a ton of foam debris :o

Got about 8 more hours into carving on the bottom section today/tonight. I told myself after I did the entire wall of the 265g tank that I would never ever do a whole wall section again. How quickly I seem to forget. My friggin' shoulder is toast right now :o

Planned on taking a break from this for a couple days to rest up, but I just can't sit still. So got the lower portion all finished up this evening. Just have the small side panels and the small upper portion to cover the hinges left to do for carving now. Then after I get back from fishing this weekend I'll start coating it and painting. Should be looking pretty good by late next week.

Carving and foam work on the outside wall is done and first color applied. Looks grey in the pic but is actually a flat slate tan.  Still lots to do.

Better pic with the first shading work. Found the florescent WB setting on my new point & shoot cam so now you can see the true colors better.

Thanks guys, it's coming out pretty good so far, I am liking that it reminds me of my big 265g I had but just a lot less work and worry which is good lol

Will post more pics as I get other stuff done soon.

Hand carved rock wall is now done. Complete with hinged upper portion so I can access the tank easily for cleaning. Next week after I get back from a fishing trip I'll be starting the matching in tank 3D background.
