first you need to figure out why they got it in the first place... bloat is caused by poor water conditions and improper food...

Ken's Fish usually has it, but is out.  I have some you could come pickup.  Some one else on here closer might have some too.

Bloat can also be caused by stress.

Metro can be very effective as a treatment but you must diagnose it early, isolate the affected specimens in a sick tank to treat, and keep a close watch on the rest of the colony isolating any others that begin to show symptoms, e.g. bloating, refusal to eat, cowering in the upper corners of the tank, etc.

If you catch it early enough many fish can potentially be saved but this disease progresses very quickly so isolate and  begin treatment according to the directions.  Expect, however, to lose some individuals.

For those individuals that are cured, be patient about reintroducing them to the colony assuming you have caught it early and most of the fish in the colony remain healthy.  Bloat spreads very fast and fish die within 24-48 hours.

Good luck finding and using metro.

If you don't catch it early and begin isolating and treating affected individuals, then yes, it will spread throughout the tank.  I've had it happen on a couple occasions and have incurred several losses each time.  Sorry  you're having the problem.  Hopefully, you'll be able to save some of the fish.

Best bet is watch how much you feed them. Also in case it needs to be said water changes help. But I am sure that you know. Spirulina is a pretty safe bet for not causing bloat but with Tropheus you still should watch it. BTW, Pet Supplies Plus has Metro.....but prevention is your best avenue I agree......

You bet it will spread, first stop feeding  treat as soon as any sign of disease ...always metro on hand...the most likey cause of bloat is poor water conditions...never over feed and leave uneaten food ....hard alkaline moving water is the most important for trophues health. keep changing the water thru treatment
