« on: March 16, 2012, 11:59:42 PM »
So i finally had enough intrest, and pushing from my WIFE!!!!  I placed an order from PetSolutions online for fish. The arrived today, and I have to say, i was very pleased. Out of 66 fish, only 3 D.O.A.'s The bonus was the group of Aurutus i orderded, one female was holding. Good or bad im not sure yet. But so far so good. Cool thing is about 1/4 of the order was paid for from a couple of people...  :P :P

That's cool that you finally ordered. What all did you get?
On a side note, I'm not sure if it was the right one but I just looked at their site and I have to say their prices seemed high for an online place. I couldn't tell from their site, are they a wholesaler or a store that happens to ship? Also, looking at some of their pics of african cichlids...they don't all look correct to me. The Taiwan Reef and Blue Dolphin. And some of the names? Pseudotropheus ""scribbled" or something like that...the pic looks like a horrible quality Electric Yellow.
I just hope you didn't get burned on this order, regardless of the low loss rate.

Pet Solutions is a LARGE online / catalog pet supplies retailer.  They also operate a chain of stores in Ohio called Jacks.  They are most definitely a retailer and not wholesaler.  I took a quick look at their live stock pricing again today and while their prices are still high IMO, but they are significantly lower than I remember a few years ago and not completely out of line retail prices.

Grizz, keep in mind Skis location.  Not much available in Alpena area unless its shipped and there aren't many options for shipping on a wide assortment of fishes at the same time.  One place may have africans, another tetras, and yet another something else.  I'm sure that is one bid draw of a place like Pet Solutions.

In regards to quality issues the difficulty is you have no idea of their source and lineage of the fish, which is why I've now only buy specific fish from specific sources.  But it takes a while of being in the hobby to figure all that out.  I.E. buying a neon tetra from big box pet store is okay, buying a Hap from a big box is probably a waste of money due to quality.  It is a learning experience everyone goes through.  Just like the learning experience I'm FINALLY getting about being cheap and buying fry versus adults.  Fry end up costing more than adults because of the electricity and food need to raise them.

Wow! That was not only a very long post but a very eloquent, non-sarcastic, and thoughtful reply....and I agree with you.
I was in no way criticizing Jim, just hoping he didn't get the short end of the stick after I looked at their stock pics. If the pics are representations of their stock, some of them just look questionable purity-wise and even health-wise to me.
