Marineland 350 canister HELP

Okay does anyone else have one of these? if so is there some black magic voodoo trick to getting the lid to seal on this dang thing??

My sister just recently bought a 2nd 55g tank to keep the rest of her Koi in over the winter and it came with this filter. I'm trying to get it set up for her and the lid just leaks like a sun of a gun. I have looked the large O-ring over very well and it seems like it is in perfect shape but I can't get the thing to stop leaking Soon as I turn it off to get some air out of it the water comes pouring out of the O-ring lid.

So guess no one has used one then.

I told her to order a new O ring, even though the one on it looks pretty new to me that's the only thing I can thing to do.

I've never used one.

A lubricant on the o-ring might help. Perhaps it's deforming in some manner due to friction when installed? Years ago I would use vasoline. Supposedly that causes rubber to deteriorate over time and there are better products to use. I switched to dipping the o-ring or portion of the filter containing the o-ring in water immediately prior to install (for my HOT and Fluval 40X filters) and haven't had any problems.

My fix for this filter has always been the same.....my Mossberg Persuader 12ga

I've worked on them and they are not worth the hassle.  Once you put it together the first time don't ever take it apart.

LOL! That would certainly resolve the leaking o-ring as the primary issue regarding why the filter leaks. 

I almost bought one of these filters years ago. Initially it seemed like a good option. Luckily I was a poor highschooler and discovered enough bad reviews before I saved up enough to pull the trigger on one.

I had her order a O ring before the replies about it being a bad filter, so I guess we'll just see if the o ring does it's job when it get here since she already ordered it. If it still leaks then I'll just tell her I'll sell it for parts on CL for her and get her a more reliable filter. (Great here we go with CL again lol)
