75g tank - which fish to get?
« on: December 02, 2014, 04:10:44 PM »
Hey everyone I just purchased a 75 gallon fish tank setup and i can't decide which fish I should stock it with...ideas?!

I'm thinking I want to do a themed tank...either Lake Tanganyika cichlids or Lake Malawi only. Which do you like best?

Which is your favorite fish that I should stock with? Names/pics would help!

I'm hoping to stock my tank with Frontosa Fry in the future...if I can snag a good deal at next years auction but until then I want some quality, beautiful fish! (Thinking of getting some beauty's at Fantastic Fins as well :) )

I also wouldn't mind if a pair or two bred in that tank...I would separate fry into separate tank until they grow up a bit...maybe sell a few :)

Anything and everything is welcome!

I keep trying tang community tanks every few years and keep going back to malawian cichlids instead. I still enjoy some of the tangs, but typically in a species specific setup. The malawians are hard to not always enjoy though. My vote is for a nice mbuna setup or a variety of small to mid-size haps.

Nice man. I wouldn't mind a hap or mbuna species tank but recently have been interested in getting a few of the really cool tangs...like the Julies, Goby cichlids, and Moori...they are so cool. Still not set on what I want.

I would go tangs.  I can get you Julies, calvus, and cyps.  Great combo.  That is what is in my display tank upstairs.  Fronts in my opinion need a 6' tank.

I keep both Mbuna and tangs, I keep catfish with all of them!

In the future, I'm looking at getting a 75 or 90 and stocking it with shellies and paracyprichromis!

You really could go either way, esp with some smaller species!

Leave the Africans and try some centrals--- Hrps, cons, cutters, carpintis, maybe a midas/ red devil.  There are lots of cool cichlids south of the boarder.
