LOCAL FISH STORES??????????????
« on: November 20, 2014, 09:37:59 AM »
I am just looking for something to do this weekend with my son, and I thought it would be a good time to go around and see some local shops that I have never been to. I am located in Highland/White Lake area. I have been to Highland Tropical (a lot), Fantastic Fins, and Cichlid World out in Westland area. Then I went up to Preuss Pets in Lansing and I dont know if I will ever be able to find a better shop but I am willing to try. Does anyone have any suggestions with in an hours drive of 48356 area? Just looking to kill some  time and spend some time with the son.
Thanks

Thanks guys I have been to Moby Dicks often, and live right down the street from Chris's shop and stop in there all  the time and BS with Chris. I have been to all the shops in my area that I am aware of. Just looking for some place that is worth an hours drive or so. Preuss is so worth the drive but would like to look at other shops as well. I looking just for something to kill some time this weekend. Ann Arbor, Lansing, Sterling Heights, Lapeer, just about anywhere around those places that are actually worth going to like PREUSS Pets.

If you're looking to see a nice variety of fish and maybe even pick something up I would suggest stopping by a couple private breeders' houses also so you can see their set ups. There are quite a few people on here with very nice rooms

If you don't mind the drive, Bruce's Pond Shop aka: Aquatic Treasures in Brownstown has a very good selection of Cichlids...

I went to fantastic fins a couple of weeks ago and was not that impressed. Call me a snob if you want but when a store looks like a wreck it just makes me wonder how well they take care of their fish. I understand that fish stores dont make a ton of money but it doesnt cost much to keep it clean and presentable. Highland Tropical in White Lake is a prime example. Place is always clean and tanks are always looking good also. And Preuss Pets is a perfect example of how a store should be, fantastic customer service, outstanding selections, and the store is always in great shape. Going to be hard for me to find a nicer store then Preuss.

Okay, I work at Preuss Pets and from what I remember from my one trip to Fantastic Fins, it was just as clean and presentable.

Every store has an *off* day at some point. I can think of instances for each of your good examples where I went into each and things were more cluttered or untidy than normal. All 3 are great stores.

The difference between fantastic fins and pruess pets for me is the prices at preuss pets there prices are  sometimes a joke. Fantastic fins is a better store with there prices then preuss pets but that just my opinion.
