Hairline scratches in glass
« on: February 21, 2012, 09:28:47 PM »
Anyone know of an effective method to remove or buff out hairline scratches in tank glass?  I have a 135 gallon that has been scratched up by my red-foot tortoises.

Not sure at this point if I should try to salvage the tank or replace it.  The damage is visible when the tank is filled.  I have heard that buffing out the scratches could compromise the strength of the glass, making it easier to break.

Any thoughts?

Thanks,

Mike

Call local auto body shop... or Painter Supply ...they could recommend what polish...probably need power buffer ... Maybe a glass shop...
What ever you use you mst get all residue out of tank before fish....No petroleum based products...
Good Luck...

Auto glass repair shop maybe but a body shop, no. The body shop will more than likely be able to tell you who can repair glass though.

Nothing but a few empty tanks.

Hey Mike, as inexpensive as used tanks are these days I would just replace it. You could probably be close to breaking even after selling yours to a reptile keeper....JMHO
