Price on a 125gal

I'm contemplating a 125gal, does 400.00 sound like a high price. Its a glass tank, stand and im assuming lids and lights (waiting to hear back). What do you guys think? Opinions welcome

Show quality with an FX5 and really nice finished wood stand etc...maybe.

I personally would not pay more than $150 or tank and iron stand because I see them that price fairly often.

Add another $50 if glass lids and a bit more for lights.. maybe $25 for standard 4 '-6' T8...more for nicer lights.  Heaters and filters...half the new price for HOB...2/3 new for canister and goes down depending on age.

Again..depends on appearance, age, what comes with it.

$1 per gal for glass and $2 per gal for acrylic is pretty much the norm for used tanks. So unless the stand is furniture grade and lights are super nice T5's or LED then the price sounds quite high IMO.

By the sounds of it, there is a full oak stand and cover from what I was told. Waiting on a few pictures, hopefully.

I just paid $320 for a new 125 with lids if that helps.  $250 to $275 would probably be fair, but if it has a full canopy more like $300 as long as it is show quality.

I was also looking for a 125 g tank way back when until Four-by-Ken suggested that I go bigger, the 125 is on the smaller end of that footprint (72" long) so why limit yourself.  After mulling it over I agreed and went up to a 180. Basically the same foot print (72" x 24"x 24"). Thanks Blair  - My bad ! dooo

IMO - look for an entire setup being sold on CL. There are always people getting out of the hobby who will sell everything.

FWIW - I got a 180, wood stand, FX5 filter, glass tops, 2 heaters, 2 - lights, all his decor, 10 larger African cichlids and ALL the supplies for $500 total...You just have to be patient and find the right deal.  BTW - the tank was up and running with fish in it when I went to look at it.

Given your location I don't think $400 is that bad, providing that everything is top notch. But, I'd still try to talk them down.

Good point Blair I didn't even consider that when I said $1 per Gal, because it does seem like the higher up in the state you go the higher prices are/less available bigger tanks get.

Your absolutely right about the availabilty of large tanks in Northern Mi. Also it is further and more inbetween to pickup. I paid 2 hundred for a 135 gallon and that was from word of mouth. If its worth it go for it. If and when the opportunity presents itself for expansion in my hobby i am definately leaning towards building instead of buying. Easier to make a one stop shop in Motown or the Windy city for material.

You can probably talk them down a little Jim, but up here that's roughly what people will pay for the set up you're describing.
