Julidochromis Marlieri and Altolamprologus Calvus
« on: January 22, 2012, 03:24:23 PM »
I'm pretty sure I have 4 males and 1 female Julie.  A male and the female have spawned in one corner of the 29 gallon tank while the other little guys keep to themselves at the other end of the tank.  It appears as though the female makes an occasional visit down at the males' end of the tank to remind them to stay down there. Nobody has challenged her.

I'll be removing all extra males and wondered if I could put my A. Calvus in the tank for population control. The Julie fry are starting to venture out into the main part of the tank and it looks like the pair are beginning spawning activity again.  The Calvus is about silver dollar size. His sole purpose for going into this tank would be for predation purposes. If it won't work that way I'll leave him where he is.

Thanks for any advice you can offer!

Julies can be surprisingly aggressive.  It's hard to say what will happen, but I'd watch your calvus to make sure they don't try to kill him.

Hi, I'm a new guy. I have 2 75's with calvus and comps one has a julie with 6 calvus and a recently added 1" calvus. Never have had any issue in fact the 4" julie seems almost friendly toward them and they hardly move when she's comes close. Hope this helps, Bob

I suspect if you had more than one in there (say a pair or a group) you would see the evil come out.

I had 12 Julies (6 Regani / 6 Transcriptus) in with Compressiceps with no problems.  Not saying you won't, but I didn't.
I used to be a people person... but people ruined that for me.
