I have had vics spawn at 2" or so.

Female appears to be now holding. Constant chewing motion, expanded throat.

Sorry to hear that.  Sometimes it takes the mom a few times to get the hang of it.

I read to that if they feel the eggs were not fertilized correctly, sometimes they will do the same. At least I know they know what they are doing. The males are still building their breeding grounds in each corner and trying to get the females to submit. Maybe it will happen again.

A day after first female spit, a diff one was holding. Now day 12 since first noticed holding. I stripped on day 3 and have 8 Fry about to be free swimming in another day or two. lost 2 fry

Thank you. I snagged this piece out of a river. Scrubbed it in every nook and cranny with multiple hard bristle brushes to get into tight places. Did this until almost nothing came off with ease. Never had an issue with it. I boiled it about 5 diff times then after final scrub, let it soak in wash sink for 5 hrs in boiling water. Advantage of getting it out of a fast flowing river is you dont get the yellow water, and it SINKS lol.
