J. Peralta...I hope this isn't true.
« on: November 24, 2013, 03:20:13 AM »
I hope Peralta doesn't join the Cardinals. I believe he was a good hitter etc. for the Tigers. This would be disappointing.  :(

It was pretty much a foregone thing that Johnny was not going to be a Tiger next year, they let that be known a few weeks ago. I liked Johnny but the problem is there just isn't room for him defensively on the team now that we picked up Iglesias late last year. Both are shortstops and  Iglesias is going to be an All Star shortstop so there just was no room for Johnny out there. I wish him well though, always liked him he's a real solid all around baseball player. Reminds me a lot of Placido Polanco whom I also miss that we use to have.

Peralta had to go for the integrity of the team.  Do I believe he knowingly broke the rules, no, doctor scammed him.  Regardless he was replaced with equal talent for less money.

Fielder leaving had to happen too.  His dad wasn't a good ball player but the press loved him, detroit politics.  Choking post season the way he did makes you wonder if he didnt do something that makes Pete Rose a saint.....

** I wasn't aware they were already in the thinking process of letting him go--Iglesias is No-Match for Peralta...Iglesias is an Auto-Out.....fields very good....hits crummy....not worth it. Peralta offered more power and good fielding.  8) Tigers will Regret losing him.  :(  Bad Mistake!! Iglesias is nothing but an out--you send him up to bat to "End A Rally"....LOL...hitting...Ppfftt....he gets on base with a walk-or-hit by pitch. LOL  :o

Are you watching the same games the rest of us are? :o lol  ;) When he was with Boston he had a .330 avg with an 18 game hitting streak where he batted .420 over 100 plate appearances. Then with the Tigers after we got him in August he hit .259 in the regular season and overall has a career batting avg of .274 which is not at all shabby for a young guy only in his 2nd year of majors. Not to mention he is the only guy on the Tigers that knows how to lay down a bunt and is lightning quick down the 1st base line. I saw him beat out many throws to first to get on base on infield hits last year that would have been an out for any other Tiger hitter/runner.

I liked Johnny and he had more power for sure than Jose, but trust me Jose is going to do much more for us than Johnny did. This year I guarantee you that you will see Ausmus call for the squeeze now when needed with Jose at the plate and he will get the bunt down to score runs. You have to give the guy a chance, he's only been a Tiger since August. His numbers show he is a good hitter. Plus keep in mind that Johnny was gonna cost us A LOT more money, money which we just saved on Prince so we could resign Max as well as Miggy when his contract is up before too long (2015 I believe it is). Iglesias is going to be around for a long time...  I think you are really selling his short.

I also have my reservations about his bat, but I will wait until this coming season.  What he has done in the field is amazing.  Will be fun to watch for sure.

*** Yes, I have watched the same games as you.  8)  I have watched Iglesias lay down a perfect bunt and the man on 3rd. home on a "squeeze play"...it was great. I have seen him run like a bullet down to first and beat the infield throw...he is Fast! His fielding is excellent at shortstop! He may have batted well with Boston--but this has not been the case with the Tigers.  :(  With the Tigers-his hitting has been a disappointment. Once in awhile he gets a hit and then consecutive outs and many with RISP. When I saw him-or-Fielder at bat-I thought..."Oh Great" another out"--I was Right!!  ;D  We will have to see how it goes in 2014...I don't expect Iglesias to change his hitting much though-just Not a Power Hitter. Peralta IS worth the $$$, his bat has proven his worth and his fielding is good. I would still choose Peralta--over--Iggy!!  8) Glad we had this "chat"...LOL...  8) ***

Tigers are in talks with Brian Wilson to perhaps fill our closer role....dunno how I feel about that yet if it does happen.

** Perhaps he might be the good closer for the Tigers...I am not quite settled on this player. He may turn-out to be the right person for the position. The Tigers relief bullpen is a sorry-pathetic-mess!!  :( **

Not sure this is a move to help for this year?  Usually the team giving up 3 players for one makes out on the deal.  The Tigers got two left handed pitchers and a utility player.  Smiley better be a good pitcher next year or this is going to look like a huge mistake.

Yep...one of them "i dunno" moves.....well see.

I hate to see Fister go though. I think he had MUCH potential. :(

Okay here it is...infielder Steve Lombardozzi, left-hander Ian Krol and minor league lefty Robbie Ray.

No real names there I know of...I don;t like to see Doug traded for any of them IMO :o Damn
