Ausmus has almost 20 yrs in the game as a player, managed international league for a year, is a very intelligent guy (went to Dartmouth) but I think the main thing that makes him a good candidate to be a good manager is the fact that he was an all star catcher his entire baseball career. Catchers generally make good managers because they are pretty much the anchor of the team while on the field.
I actually think he's a good choice mainly because we had 8 yrs of a manager that was too old school and very stuck in his ways. So I think that going somewhat the polar opposite (young & fresh) might be just the spark we need to get us what we need. No way to know for sure though, we'll find out, only 5 months till spring training
