Random Cichlids of the Past
« on: January 16, 2012, 10:45:59 PM »
My birthday past the other day and I've been reflecting on the past. Looking at my album of things I've uploaded over the years, I've got a variety of things I've certainly never posted here and thought I'd share some.  :)

These are all from the same tank that I had around January 2005 IIRC:

One of my all time favorites. Unfortunately I had to sell him during a move when he was even larger. I'm surprised they aren't more popular and will leave it an exercise for the reader to figure out what it is. ;) I've got v2.0 growing out right now - hopefully the one I've got will get as nice as this one was:

It's Nimbochromis fuscotaeniatus last I checked, but I'm in agreement with some well-respected people in the cichlid world that it would be better associated with Tyrannochromis rather than Nimbochromis. It just got a very different body-profile from the other Nimbochromis species. The only real similarity IMO is that it gets big as has the camo pattern (the camo pattern IMO being why it was first labeled Nimbochromis).

Here's a few more photos, though I think the fish might have been a bit older in these:

In the pic with all the mbuna, what's in the upper right side (kinda above the Acei, or should I say Elegans)?

That's a young male Ps. sp. "Elongatus Usisya" that was just starting to show some color at the time.

Ok, I knew it was some type of Elongatus. I'd like to find some Mbenji Blues.
