lace rock/dead rock?

Anyone ever use lace rock in a cichlid tank? Is it to ruff?

I've used it and a lot of others do. It's just fine...tho I imagine fish could scratch themselves on it.

I am starting to draw up some ideas for my big tank, and I am thinking of doing a variety of different layouts,driftwood in one area, pants in another, slate and lacerock.

I was thinking gravel sand and stone for a substrate.

Kind of looking for a different look. I have been reading a lot of diy idea's and I want to use what I have laying around, so thats why I was asking about the lace rock. I have a ton

I have it in my 150 gallon.  I really like the looks of it a lot.  I have our Albus, Phenos, clown loaches and some bristlenose in the tank.

Stopped at key's today and they have a huge African tank and its all lace rock with a few pieces of driftwood and it looked awesome.

I know have a plan

Hmmm... I think that tank looks like crap.  It needs way more rock, or much larger fish.  Heck, needs way more fish as it is no matter what.

Plus the fish color sucks for a display tank.

The thing I didnt like about that tank is the frt to back depth makes it look off balance. It seemed that over half the foot print was covered in rock and the fish were pushed to the frt of the tank, but I like the look of the lace rock.

I guess I will just play around with the lay out and see what looks best.

I actually was in there again just the other day checking out what the dimensions of their 1000 gallon tank is as a comparison.

I looked at the African tank again.  They have put a lot more fish in there, but still seems missing to me.  Just not the best examples of the fish they have in there and a strange combination I guess.  But, probably the best I have seen it since they set it up a year or so ago.

Also needs much better lighting in my opinion.
