The MCA Auction Tomorrow and I-696 Construction!
« on: September 20, 2013, 02:02:29 PM »
I got a nice heads-up from a friend and wanted to pass it along...
Anyone taking I-696 to the auction beware that there might be congestion around the merger to I-75.

I-696:
In Oakland and Macomb counties, eastbound I-696 will be closed from I-75 to Mound Road from 9 p.m. Friday until 5 a.m. Monday. Traffic will be detoured south on I-75 to eastbound M-102 (Eight Mile Road), to northbound Mound Road back to eastbound I-696. Eastbound I-696 traffic will remain in the right lane until Schoenherr Highway. All entrance ramps to eastbound I-696 will be closed from Woodward to Hoover. The closure is needed for pavement repairs.

Not sure how bad the detour will be, but planning extra time or a different route might be a good idea. See everyone tomorrow!

For anyone unaware of the auction, you can find more information here:

One quick way to avoid this is to take either 8 mile or 16 mile to John r and John R to 13 mile and then go West and it will be on the left. There is a Red Lobster On the south west corner of 13 and John r So You know you are in the right area, the street to turn is on the south side of 13 mile, right before the I-75 Overpass.

Any question ask away, I know the area like its the back of my hand, I used to live near there:)

What about jumping off I-696 somewhere to head north and taking 12 or 13 across (east)? If so, jump off 696 where?

I would say to avoid 75 jump off at the Woodward exit you can take 14 straight down if you would like or go through royal oak (main street)  then up to 14 probably would be the quickest way to avoid the construction at 75.

Allow me to fix that not van dyke but anyone coming from the east would have to get off at groesbeck and take 14 down if its backed around Schoenherr  area

IF Looking for main roads for long distance 8 mile and 16 mile are your best east west alternatives.

if you are coming from south 75, get off at 8 mile and take it east to dequinder go to 13 mile and turn left, and it will be down on the left

If coming from the north you can take 75 to big beaver(16 mile) and go to john r and turn right and go to 13 mile.

I would avoid going the Woodward route off of 696 near the zoo, too easy to get lost if your not familiar with the area :)

Ok, I'm coming down 75S. Get off at 16 Mile, then turn which way? A little more detailed would be good.
