Planning for vacation
« on: June 24, 2013, 12:01:08 AM »
Could use some advice from you guys about my fish and my up coming vacation. Every year I do a family 2 week (16 days) vacation fishing trip to my cabin upnorth, well this year will be the first year I will be doing it and having fish at home. I've been reading on various sites to see what people suggest. Some say use auto feeders, some say they will be fine without food, so say this some say that...really not sure what to believe now with all this mixed info out there.

My plan was to buy auto feeders for each tank and set them up at least a week ahead of time to make sure they work properly, do about 65% pwc on each tank 1 day before I leave, and put a timer o9n the tank with the live plants in it so it gets some light each day. Here's the tanks I will be leaving....

55g - Mbuna tank with 13 Mbuna, 4 cats, 3 loaches 1 adult BNP (some live plants)
55g - Peacock tank with 9 peacocks, 4 cats, 2 adult BNP
10g - 1 beta, 5 cories, 3 small 1.5" bnp growing out
20g long - 2 bnp growing out and a 5" lab that does not get along with others well
20g long - 10 yellow lab fry

What's the best options for me here, my plan for feeders and such okay or?.... Appreciate any and all advice. BTW I leave July 12th so I have some time before I leave.

Better to have a short life full of what you like doing, than a long life spent in a miserable way.

I leave my fish without food for a week all the time. But for 2wks (I would ) start preparing them now.  First by cutting feeding down to every other day & increasing the days without food to longer & longer.

Also before leaving do a bigger WC,  more like 80% & guttload them right before leaving

I use eheim fish feeders.  They can be programmed for both frequency and quantity of feeding.  The one at my office has been running over a year on the same batteries.
