Video of my fish
« on: March 16, 2013, 07:50:44 PM »
Today was tank maintenance day so figured after I finished cleaning them up I'd take a short little video of my fish room to share with everyone. Now obviously it's no where near the number of tanks some of you guys have in your fish rooms, but for now I'm happy with the tanks I have in there for the time being. First tank is 55g and mostly Mbuna with one Hap and four syno cats, lower tank is 10g with Beta/Cory cats/Neon tetra, then other 55g tank is my all male peacock tank and two hybrid snyo cats. All the backgrounds, wood stands, canopies and such are all made by me.

Hope you guys enjoy.

Looks good.  You do a real nice job on those back grounds.

They look real nice. Question are your landscaping rocks made from the same material as your backrounds? It is sweet how the tanks match with the backrounds you make.

Thanks guys. gannmann some of the rocks such as the ones in the peacock tank are all real rocks but when I built that tank I drylok coated the rocks and then drybrush shaded them to match the background.

Ahh that is a good idea drylocking the rocks. I might have to give that a try. The idea of having a matching aquascap in a tank looks sweet.  Do you just use a saw and file to make the backrounds?  I watched how to make the 3D backround and the guy was using sculpting tools specialy for styrofoam or whateveer that material is. The tools were electric. And melter the material. Wish I could afford a 3D for one of my tanks.

No special tools at all needed. All it takes is your imagination and some basic hand tools. I did all of mine with nothing more than a dry wall scraping tool, a large round wood rasp, and a knife. It's really enjoyable doing things like the backgrounds yourself. And the fish really like them. Since it covers the whole back of the tank with "rock" my fish use the whole water column all the way to the top because they think the rocks go all the way up ;D
