Bleekeri?
« on: January 29, 2013, 07:59:40 AM »
OK, so I am searching on this fish.  It was just labeled as "Bleekeri"

I had never heard of it.  I have done the Google search... just looking for some personal opinions on it.

Madagascar cichlid that is an egg layer.  Can be very aggressive towards each other and other fish, just depends on the individual fish.  I've had males kill females and vice versa.

A good trick is to to set up a divider using egg crate with a hole in the middle just big enough for the female to swim through so they can spawn, but the female has somewhere to hide if the male starts beating her up.  This works great unless the female is the mean one. ;)

Personal opinion?  IMO Bleekeri are one of the nicest fish to keep.
I've only kept individuals,  but I've heard there's some challenge in getting a successful pair spawning.

I'm not really concerned with breeding them at all.

I just thought it was south american as that is where it was in the store.  Wish I would have looked it up more when I was there.

Wonder how it would do in my mixed semi-aggressive... non-peacock 140 gallon tank.

Nope,  not IMO. Bleekeri are best mixed with other Madagascar,  West African,  SAs & CAs.
