best/favorite part of the auction today ???
« on: January 20, 2013, 04:35:13 AM »
What was your favorite part of the auction today?

For me it was when Big Don was auctioning off the last bag of Convicts & the kid came walking down the center aisle, hand raised to the sky like Don was giving out free candy.
It's great to see kids getting into the hobby, whether it be on their own or because of their parents.

^ That was a pretty cool moment.

My favorite was more of an individual moment ... learning I really don't know %^*$ about plants. :-X
At least I now know the single type of plant I can grow well, so I'll have it properly labeled in the future. Thanks Tony!

Overall great time, my first MCA experience.
Everyone was friendly.. even kids were helping out!
The selection was plentiful, AWESOME deals on groups, I walked away with more and I thought I would.
Kudos to the organizers!  I went solo this time, but after telling my wife about the day said she would like to tag along, I look fwd to meeting more members at the next one.

Mine was Open to close, it was a great day all around.

The worst part is when I slipped on a wet spot and my bad leg went forward until it hit a try spot and STOPPED, and then in turn my left leg stayed back where it started, so I was kinda doing the splits. My knee is bad as it is and when it came to a dead stop it was instant "oh boy this isnt good kinda pain" but hey I had work to do:)

Thanks to everyone that gave big thank you's to the kids that were helping out with the fish and in the kitchen.

Also a big Thank you to Jeff, Helping me carry that tub in the parking lot doesn't seem like a lot to most but it was a HUGE help, so Thank you

Rich

The best part of the auction was when the guy buying all the severums left and I got to pick up a couple bags on the cheap LoL

No but really the whole day was awesome I had a ton of fun got to see all the stuff up close.  I'm still new so seeing the bags labeled and the fish in them that close helped me a lot.  I also bid on way way to much thank god I didn't even win a quarter of what I bid on or I'd be in trouble and probably divorced.

I really just enjoyed checking out the fish real close. bidding. and watching the bidding wars really enjoyable and also addicting.

Personal best part, probably picking up my first haps 5 dwarf fire haps I really have no idea what they actaully are but they are pretty cool.

Worst part, was when I bought the wrong collection point pseudotropheus elongatus so I offered them to the guy I was bidding against and he only gave me half what I paid.  Felt very dumb but I knew if I kept them they get mixed up.

I had a good time.  Need to talk my brother into coming to the next one.  This was my first.

Goal was a couple plecos and stay under $50.  I achieved both, plus additional fish.  Also, the wife is quite happy with what I brought home.. that's a plus.

I loved the kid at the end.  I was sitting close to them.  That made my day.

So, when is the next one?

I regret not meeting more people.  I was a little overwhelmed with the amount of fish there.

Clearly my favorite part was not spending an additional 2 hours in the car on Saturday by having to go to Chesterfield, Ontario, Canada!

I tought the quality of the fish was very high and I enjoyed seeing that too!
I used to be a people person... but people ruined that for me.

hopefully they were bagged right, but even then sometimes that happens.  People aren't always careful with the bags of fish when looking at them.

I am not sure if it was the new location or not but there seemed to be a new boost of energy in the club. I am looking forward to being more involved this coming year so a few of the board members (not to mention any names but we all know who they are) can work a little less hard and enjoy themselves as well. They may even be able to get in on the bidding before the end of the auction. They do allot of work so the rest of us can get the fish we want and the only time seen them in the bag area was to get more tables or clean up the water on the floor. Just want to say THANK YOU! to everyone involved.

As for the auction, everything was well run, including the concession stand. I agree the kids did a great job and were a big help.

My favorite part was seeing some familiar faces and having some good conversation. I almost had Ron convinced that he needed to try some American cichlids. :)

I also have to mention that the location was excellent at least coming from my neck of the woods.

I wonder if some type of summer event would work out? It's a long wait for the next one in November!
