Anyone making mini sponge filters?

A while back I watched something online about making super small sponge filters using pvc t's or elbows and sticking sponge in an end and airline...  something like that.   It was for, maybe those plastic shoeboxes used to hold killifish fry or similar...   has anyone seen that or know what i'm talking about?   I just got all the sponge plugs in, and now I cant remember where I saw that... 

No one I've asked knows what I'm talking about....   I'm hoping someone here can send me a link...

I'm not sure what you're talking about, but 99% of the non-mini DIY sponge filters I've seen use PVC with a hole drilled in the side for an airline.

IMO the advantage of sponge filters are biological filtration more so than any other. And for biological filtration, surface area is key, so I don't understand why anyone would make miniature versions. They are supposed to be big, ugly, and stick out in a tank.

lol!   I know, i know...  but they were a very unique design and very efficient for >1 gal 'tanks'.   

I've kept killifish fry in tiny containers but it would be better to filter them a bit (so I can ease up on maintenance!! )

with killies, any size diff in the fry, and the bigger ones eat the smaller ones.  When you are harvesting eggs every couple days, the sizes vary greatly; so you have to keep sames sizes together which means lots of containers.  They are SUPER tiny - much smaller than most malawi cichlid fry.  It would be harder to feed them properly in a bigger tank.   Killies are fun, but they take a bit of work...  they grow fast and show color young so that makes it worth it 

oh and they jump out like CRAZY so you need a tight fitting lid - so those lidded plastic shoeboxes work well.
