Electric Baseboard Heat

Anyone have experience with an electric baseboard heater to heat your fish room?

Looking at one like this:

I have never used one personally, but I would think that it would work pretty well. The radiant heat is usually better than warm air.  Do you have a furnace or a boiler in your house for heat. If you have a boiler you could have some baseboard added on its own zone and thermostat. Just a thought.

Boilers are really slick. I have a wood furnace for primary winter heat and keep thinking about trying to rig up a means to heat water for water changes, but haven't.

I don't see why the baseboard heat wouldn't work presuming it's enough wattage to heat the room well enough. I've considered some of the freestanding, rotating heaters, but haven't made a purchase yet. Currently I just have a handful of tanks with heaters, but not a heater in every tank. That combined with a dehumidifier has kept all the tanks warm enough.

All of my tanks below waste height have a heater and the biggest tanks above that do as well, but since warm air rises, the rest do not. The heated tanks are ~77-78F, while the rest are 74F-76F typically.

The only issue I could see with that type of heater is that you would have to be careful putting a rack over the heater, otherwise you might cook the fish on the lower level.

The only other negative I can think of is I've seen something similar elsewhere (can't remember where) and they rusted out.

I'm actually considering switching over to something like this in my room instead of a space heater:

It doesn't take much to install it, it has a small footprint, and the built in fan will help circulate air.

The company I work for is a Plumbing/Heating/A.C. and Ventalation wholesaler. Ive been with them now for over 12 years, and i'll tell ya, I have seen some pretty unique heating options come through over the years.

Not that im aware of. I have always been told that radiant heat is the most efficient, and most even heating option. Simply because obviously it heats the space and everything in it.

Well you know how cautious I am.  I can't imagine ever a time that there would be a water spill that would lead to a unit being rusted out.   

I'm putting baseboard heaters on the no list.  Only reason I don't want radiant space heaters is I think they will get in the way.  I like Marty's idea of an in wall unit - not sure just yet though.
