Foods
« on: September 22, 2011, 02:16:46 PM »
What is the best to feed the fry for growth,  I have been using nls, and crushed flake.  But I found a local guy that is actually rasing worms as a hobby and is selling off some to help fund his hobby,  I was wondering if feed live red worms and other types are ok,  or Should I be very careful and watch for bloat and other problems.  What are some of the pros and cons to it..  I'm not sure how expensive they are but i suspecting they are pretty cheap.... will do some research on price before buying any...   Just looking for some of your gurus thoughts...

Thanks

Before commenting further, what species of fry are you raising?

I wouldn't feed the fish you have listed any kind of worms.
Especially the Mbuna

I feed live baby brine shrimp when they are real young then switch to cruhed flake and nls growth formula as they grow.   I have tried several of the powder foods but it is very easy to overfeed and usually results in dirty tanks quite quickly o I now avoid the powder foods.

I would also suggest avoiding the worms.

I use Hikari First Bites for the first couple weeks then switch to ground up flakes. Once they get some size to 'em I move on to 1mm NLS pellets.

Warning about First Bites: it is a lot of food, much more than you expect. I use a toothpick, dip about 1/2 inch of it in the powder and that's plenty of food (depending on how many fry you have of course).
