Need Some Get Well Wishes...UPDATE~10/16/12
« on: October 12, 2012, 12:27:40 AM »
Annette Krajniak left me a message while I was at the MCAS meeting tonight that Carl is in the hospital with a ruptured appendix. They have to wait to do the surgery though due to some medication he has been taking.
I will found out more info tomorrow morning when I call her back. I will also be calling Carl at the hospital to send him get well wishes. I plan to go see him if he's allowed non-family visitors.
I will keep everyone updated frequently.

Definitely keep this updated.  Carl is a great guy&  helped me a shitton when I fish got into the hobby.
I truly believe that I wouldn't be where I'm at in the hobby today if it wasn't for him&  people like him.

I boycotted  Pet Connection for years after what happened between them.

Okay, I went to visit Carl today and he seemed in pretty good spirits and he looked good too.
He went in Tuesday with severe stomach pain and they diagnosed a ruptured appendix.
As I previously mentioned, his doctors could not do the full surgery due to being on blood thinners.
They have to wait until that is out of his system in order to operate. They did install a drain to evacuate the toxins from the ruptured appendix.
As of this afternoon, the doctors are not even sure if they will need to do the surgery. They say there are three options for his treatment, but they have not decided on which option yet. That being said, he's not sure when he will be released from the hospital. I will be talking to him and/or his wife Annette daily by phone and I'll check to see if he is up to receiving additional phone calls.

In the meantime, I highly encourage everyone to post their well wishes here...besides updating all of you here, I plan to also update Carl with the posts here, so pile them on!!!

No, Carl never owned a fish store. After he retired from Ford Motor Company he worked part time at Pet Connection for years and then when Choice Aquariums opened, he worked there part time for awhile.

I will be visiting Carl again on Sunday and will find out if he's up to phone calls.

Okay, Carl is supposed to go home on Monday. He'll have to have some tests to determine the exact type of surgery he will need. I'll post tomorrow to confirm that he is at home.

I'm still somewhat new here so I don't know everyone by first name yet, but Carl certainly has my well wishes for a speedy recovery.

Okay, Carl was discharged from the hospital on Monday and is now at home resting. As I mentioned, he will still have to have surgery in the near future. I assume he will be able to take calls at home now, but I am also quite sure that his amazing wife Annette will be sure he doesn't overdo anything.
I am going to their place on Friday to clean tanks and do some other "fish chores" so I can give everyone an update on Friday or Saturday.
I also passed on everyone's best wishes to him and Annette and they are both very appreciative.
Trust me, I know from personal experience that all the get well wishes do a person wonders when they are ailing.
Stay tuned for further info.

Thanks for the update.  Glad he's home.

I am glad he's home too and that his condition will (hopefully) be an easy fix. Despite Carl and I having somewhere around a thirty year difference in age, I consider him a very dear friend.
I haven't mentioned the circumstances of how I found out about his hospital stay. I called his house last Thursday to see if he wanted to meet us at the MCAS meeting and see Pete Durkin's program. I ended up just leaving a message...figured him and Annette were out running errands or something. Then, later at the meeting, my phone rang and it was from "Carl" but I just let it go to voice mail because Pete was about to start his program. I didn't listen to the message until about 11pm and as soon as I heard Annette's voice instead of Carl's, I knew something was wrong. Talk about a split second moment of anxiety!
I actually listened to the message several times just to be sure that he was stable and in no immediate health danger.
Anyway, I called Annette the next morning and was able to visit him later that afternoon.
I will be able to keep close tabs on my big buddy over the immediate future because....well, I just will.
