Labidochromis perlmutt is correct. If anyone is interested in some info regarding two different L.perlmutt strains, I will start a new thread so as not to hijack Deb's thread.

Well looks like we are wrong, they are hybrids.
According to the previous owner he only had one female Perlmutt and these are her offspring
Male is a Perlmutt/pseudotropheus zebra long pelvic hybrid
Female is Socolofi or yellow lab/Perlmutt mix

Yep they are purty!
I dont really see the issue with hybrids as long as they aren't introduced to the wild.

Yes,I was gona guess hybrid all the Pearlmutt males I`ve seen have very little barring as mature adults body shape seemed off.(the female could fool me though she looks all pearlmutt)

Good to read the update - I really didn't think that they looked right, but it'd also been a few years since I've seen any in person.

Just keep them in your tank & don't trade them in or give them away

I would say the biggest issue would be dilution of pure strains of fish with hybrids by unscrupulous or unknowing breeders.

For example, let's say you decide to get out of cichlids and you sell or give your fish to someone else.  They subsequently dump some of them off at a pet store, and the owner sells them to someone else.  That person thinks they have pure bred perlmutts and add them to a colony and subsequently sells them to someone else.

Hmmm, I thought their stripes could come and go like White Top Haras do. Anyway, there's the problem with hybrids. Once they get out of your possession, who knows.
