Pseudotropheus First Spawn
« on: September 17, 2012, 09:37:15 AM »
After returning home from the Oyers' last friday, I noticed one of my Orange Pseudotropheus was holding! Glad I learned about that. Thanks again guys! I believe they are Pseudotropheus Estherae, but when I bought them they were listed as Orange Pseudotropheus.

Congrats!

The technical name as I see it is "M. estherae". Once upon a time they were Pseudotropheus. Common names of "Red Zebra", "Orange Pseudotropheus", etc, still abound.

Here's some reading describing a little more information about  you might find interesting:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Maylandia

^ Once you've read that, you'll see why I choose to use "M." ... personally I sided with Maylandia over Metriaclima, but keeping limiting it to an abbreviation makes everyone happy.  :)

Haha, very diplomatic of you. The M. Estherae does appear to be my fish. Thanks for the ID

not bad for a first spawn but if these are fully grown you can expect 30+
