ACA diary - What happens in Indy stays...

ACA diary - What happens in Indy stays... Plastered across the internet!

The adventure started Tuesday night.  Drove the 50 minutes from my lovely town in Oakland county out to Marty's in Macomb Twp, Canada.  We couldn't do it during day light hours because Marty has an aversion not doing things the most difficult way possible.  Started at 10pm.  After multiple trips to Meijer trying to get parts to fix trailer lights we figured out the my truck wiring is messed up.  Scrapped idea of trailer.  Marty pissed.  Load up truck with aquarium units.  Off to home just after midnight.  Get home 1am.

Wednesday.  Bagged up fish and packed up in the morning.  Marty comes over about 1pm.  Between 1pm and 2pm we put 20 lbs of crap into a 5lb bag.  2pm off to Indy!  Arrive in Indy just before 8pm.  Yes the hotel has our reservation but they have no rooms!  %#@*!  Wait till 9ish and sweet talk our way into a room.  Unload and set up till 11:30.

Checked out some of the show fish.  3 really cool pikes and LOTS of really nice discus.  They had a bunch of food fish from CA too.  Looks to be a big event.  Concerned about the amount of foot traffic in the halls of people wanting to buy out of rooms like the OCA.  We'll see what happens.

So far there has been no embarrassing incidents but as soon as one happens I'll be posting!!!

It's great to hear you're tracking the event through this thread! Did you take a camera though? Where are pictures?

How many people do you think are at the hotel for the event?

I also think the trailer issue was destiny! I got a truck earlier this year and every time I've gone to hook it up to a trailer right before needing to take it somewhere I've had issues.

As far as rooms, you're staying at a Wyndham right? I had the exact same issue the last time I stayed at one, though in GA and not during a big event. Lots of BS IMO! I was actually shocked the other day when they emailed me a list of discount rooms and one of the available locations was Indi. I figured it should have been booked solid at normal pricing by ACA attendees.

Look forward to hearing about this event from the fool with the stick and the bear.  Hopefully in all the packing you remembered your stick.

Addendum to The Fool's diary:

Marty was pissed about the trailer because I was bothering Jeff for about a week to check the trailer package to ensure it worked.  My wife was taking her friend out to dinner Tuesday evening, so I wanted her home to distract the 6 year old who likes to help.

I did take my camera (along with my USB cord and charger), and I'm on my way to Rusty Wessel's house for a tour.  I expect to take a bunch of pics, and I might even post them.

Jeff is still asleep at 10am, if he snores again tonight I may just duct tape a fish bag over his face this evening (to muffle the sound).

The only notable thing that has happened so far is that I woke up at 4am with a feeling that something was wrong (okay, I wasn't really asleep because Jeff's snoring is comparable in volume to to an F14 that missed it's landing on the aircraft carrier and has to hit the afterburners, but you know what I mean)   Sure enough the Clarity Plus unit wasn't draining into the sump fast enough, and had spilled about a half gallon of water out of the bottom of the unit onto the floor.  Adjusted a couple of flow valves, soaked up the excess water, and back to bed

Make sure you get pictures if you implement a snoring muffle

It was a couple days before and 'Jeff' had a 1000 things to do and didn't really f'ing care if we took a trailer and thinks Marty should be more appreciative of the fact that I volunteered my truck in the first place.

Don't believe a word about the snoring!  I didn't hear a damn thing.   :P  What I DID hear was being woken up just before noon to rushing water over the side of Marty's tank.  Marty decided to plug the drain with a wash cloth before he left.  So there was a good 5 to 10 gallons of water on the floor.  And now the electrical outlet in the wall doesn't work.  Glad the room is in Marty's name!

I need a bigger stick.

Had lunch with Ray "Kingfish" Lucas.  He's a nice guy.

Most of the vendors are setup in the vendor room.  I've seen more people moving in today with fish boxes.  Still LOTS of empty tanks in the event rooms.  Hopefully they will start filling up today / tomorrow.

All I know is that it was fine when I left to go to Rusty's....

That washcloth has been there the whole time.

I'll take pictures and post them later.

No idea on attendance.  Still think the majority of people are still yet to arrive.

Trailer - I never put a trailer on this truck and the wiring was after market and something I've never seen before.  I didn't have high hopes to begin with and was not about to put money into a vechile that I soon hope to only have as my "Dog" car (i.e. only used to take the dogs places).

Yes it is at the Wyndham.  Decent enough hotel.  The issue with rooms was another hotel had a power outage so they sent all their guests here and a large international flight was cancelled with the airline sending the passengers here too.  They claimed to have the rooms but they just where not cleaned and the housekeeping was called in for overtime.

I think I just need to start ignoring this thread. The more I read&  think about it, the more it makes me wanna be there.
I'll restate what I said on Facebook....  Imagine Marty having to deal with both of us, lol.

So how did the snoring muffle work Marty?  If it works well maybe you can patent the idea.
