The Michigan Cichlid Association is holding our elections for 2020 MCA BoD! Nominations shall be handled in the following manner:
The member can volunteer and have two other members support the nomination, or the member can be nominated by another member and supported by two other members (in this circumstance, the person nominated has to accept in order to be placed on the ballot).
The nomination period will be for two weeks (November 7th until 11:59 November 21st). After nominations are closed, we will hold elections at the December Christmas party. (As per MCA bylaws)
Board meetings are held a minimum of 3x per year. You must be a paid club member for at least one year to be eligible for these positions. Here is a description of of officer positions/duties:
PRESIDENT
Presides over board meetings and regular meetings, and coordinates club activities with board members including hosting speakers, auctions, road trips, etc. Must be able to attend regular meetings, board meetings, and club functions on a regular basis.
VICE PRESIDENT
Assists the President in all of their duties, presides over meetings and board meetings in the President's absence. Handles annual BoD election. Must be able to attend regular meetings, board meetings, and club functions on a regular basis.
TREASURER
Handles club finances. Responsible for accepting and disbursing funds for club activities. Responsible for generating a monthly financial report, and maintaining accurate financial records for the club. Must be able to attend club meetings, board meetings, and club functions on a regular basis. Must be a club member for a minimum of one year to be eligible for this position. Must also be free of any criminal convictions, and willing to submit to a background check.
SECRETARY
Responsible to take minutes at board meetings along with a brief description of the proceedings. To conduct correspondence as the Executive Board may require. Must be able to attend board meetings on a regular basis.
BOARD OF DIRECTORS
Board members assist in the planning and execution of club activities. Examples include hosting guest speakers, planning activities for meetings, planning auctions, road trips, obtaining manufacturer donations, etc. Depending on the composition of the Board, members may be assigned to committees for events that require detailed planning like auctions or shows.
