Cichlid trouble

I'm having trouble knowing exactly what type of fish this is and whether it's a female or male. It's been in the tank for awhile and recently one of the other cichlids got beaten up over night and was fine the night before. If it's a female then that might understand why the behavior was that way. Here are pictures of the Johanni I believe. Any help is appreciated
