Emperor 400 experience? (Noise)

I have owned a few of these over the years. I picked the one I have now up for a deal bit it is very loud. It works however. On my old one I seem to remeber having to play with them to quiet them down. This one will not quiet down. The impeller could probably use replacing but I don't want to waste the time and money if it will likely not improve. I was wondering if anyone had experience with a noisey emperor 400 and what you did to fox it if anything. Should I just buy the impeller and eat the cost if it doesn't help?

Did you Try vaseline on the impeller?

For a HOB, I always preferred the Emp400s. I think I have around 8-10 and can't bring myself to part with them.

IME, if you play with the center portion a bit, you can normally quiet them down unless the impeller rubber bumpers are either worn at an angle or hardened and too small to fit snuggly. Sometimes you can find just the rubber part or steal from another cheaper impeller to avoid buying a new Emp400 impeller.

They will also become more quiet with age - cleaning them would always cause noise to increase and then it'd gradually decrease as a slime coat built up on the impeller.

I tried vaseline it helped for a minute. On mine both rubber boots are worn off impeller on top and bottom. Time to order new impeller I guess.

I just make sure the impeller assembly is clean, and yes sometimes new parts are needed.

iv noticed most of my noise is from the fins hitting the intake so i just move it around to try to find the sweet spot.

now i have no complaints with noise

If the "boots" are worn off.....time for new ones, they keep the impeller centered.
