Diet for Peacock Tank
« on: August 04, 2015, 05:00:35 PM »
i have always fed high-protein diet for my wild caught Front 325 tank with big success. Huge 21 inch male, and the rest of them are doing very well. I have had this tank set up for six years, and only lost one fish jumped out of one of the slots. I just set up a 125 Peacock tank, but I spoke to somebody at a LFS and she said that peacocks mostly feed on plant-based food? I've had this tank set up for six weeks and the color and activity is outstanding with a high-protein pellet. Suggestions? I have also mixed in a high-quality general food as well..

Aulonacara are carnivores.  Whoever you spoke to didn't know what she was talking about.

I'd recommend going the "mixing with general foods" route, that way there's variety in the diet.

My two cents is to feed mostly animal based foods, but I always include some veggie based foods too. That gives the fish fiber which will decrease the likelihood of "bloat".
