Nuchal Hump
« on: February 11, 2015, 09:03:49 PM »
On the theme of potentially charged fish-keeping topics, where does everyone stand on these?

I'm not sure if I'm in the majority of the minority, but my take ... a BIG "bump" on the head ... just plain ugly!  :P

Agreed, it was the main reason I never liked Cyrtocara moori, or Frontosa.

Frontosa and geos are the only fish I've found with nuchal humps that I like. They just look cavemanish to me.

If it's on a species that's supposed to have it, then it looks right.

I don't mind it at all. On a monster Frontosa I love it, same with a Midas Cichlid.

I don't like them. I got my Kapampa Gibberosa because from what I saw their humps stayed fairly minimal in relation to others I've seen with huge ones. If they get huge, I'd probably sell them.

Put a little bump in your life with a nuchal hump.

I feel the same way as Blair. On fish that are supposed to have one like Frontosa, Moorii, Flowerhorn etc etc I think it looks right.

If a fish that exists in the wild develops the nuchal hump, wether wild caught or tank raised, I'm of the opinion that it's appropriate. If tank raised fish acquires it due to disgusting hybridization or genetic manipulation then I say it should be euthanized....along with all the other junk fish that are "created" by mankind.
