I have used 2x4s (or 2x 12s or whatever) then cinder blocks then another set of 2x4s or such.  I used metal joiners to jook the wood pieces tightly together then put a half inch piece of foam on top.

For the price 'Over the Edge' charges I would just order a metal stand from Rick.

I have a very large cinderblock stand for 4 80 gallon cubes and looking back on it I would probably get a metal stand from over the edge too. While costing more it is not that much more and it would save a TON of space.  In addition I could have a second shelf for more tanks (always good) if I wanted.  I am not saying cinder blocks do not make a great (and very strong) stand, but they are very bulky.
