Hydor Koralia or Tunze?
« on: January 02, 2014, 04:39:01 PM »
Couldn't find a previous discussion comparing these so I figured I would ask for suggestions or opinions. It seems that neither company's powerheads match up exactly for flow rate and both have what appears to be good reviews and mounting ability. With Tunze being a little higher ($15-20) for comparable models.. is one better?

Thanks for your input. BTW- I am specifically buying a pair for the 180g I am setting up, but will use them on other tanks in the future. My experience has been with Aquaclear and although have proven to last and do the job, they are bulking, kinda ugly, and I can mount them very easily.

Haven't used tunze,  but have been using multiple koralia models for years.  The best time to buy them is when PSP changes their inventory & They are clearance priced. (About 50%off)

I concur with Blair, the Koralia's are very reliable and also quiet.  Good to know about PSP.  Someone should post it when this occurs..

BTW - I just bought a Hydor Koralia Evolution Aquarium Circulation Pump 1150 for my 180 and the fish love it...

Excellent thanks.. All good to know.. I will start looking. I can get by for a while with the powerheads I have, but need a few more and an upgrade.. Anyone hears of a sale.. I agree.. please mention it!

Thanks for the insight. Marc and family

Yes - Pet Supplies Plus.  As I recall, they do the discounting in the summer months or early fall, but I don't remember exactly.

Occasionally you can find things discounted heavily on their clearance racks as well...worth a look if you happen to be in the store.

In my experience, the Woodhaven location is the best downriver, then the Taylor one, and much less so the Dearborn Heights one.  I don't have any experience with the other locations.
